Pregnancy Week 38

Pregnancy Week 38

Welcome to week 38 of your pregnancy! It's incredible how time has flown by, and you're now just a few short weeks away from meeting your little one. (Or you are screaming that it has been the longest 38 weeks of your life) As you navigate this final stage of pregnancy, you may experience a mix of anticipation, physical changes, and a few unexpected twists. Let's dive into what week 38 has in store for you.

Nesting Instincts - Full Throttle:

The nesting instinct, which may have started earlier, is now in full swing. You may find yourself reorganising the nursery for the umpteenth time, washing baby clothes with meticulous care, and scrutinising your hospital bag checklist like a detective solving a case. It's as if your maternal instincts have kicked into overdrive, and you want everything to be perfect for your baby's arrival.

The Weight of the Belly:

By now, your baby bump has reached impressive proportions. It's like carrying a bowling ball around, and simple tasks like bending over or tying your shoes may require Olympic-level flexibility. Embrace the comedy of it all and maybe enlist your partner's help with those tricky shoelaces.

Unpredictable Emotions:

Pregnancy hormones can be a rollercoaster ride. One moment, you're overcome with joy and excitement about the imminent arrival of your baby, and the next, you're inexplicably sobbing at a sentimental commercial. Rest assured, these emotional fluctuations are perfectly normal, and it's okay to let those feelings flow.

Signs of Labour:

At this stage, you might start noticing signs that labour could be approaching. These may include increased Braxton Hicks contractions, lower back pain, or even the loss of your mucus plug. While these signs can be exciting, they don't necessarily mean labour is imminent. Keep an eye on them but remember to stay calm and collected.

Patience, Patience, Patience:

As the days tick down, it's natural to feel a sense of impatience. You've waited for this moment for months, and now it feels so close yet still a little elusive. Trust that your baby will make their debut when the time is right, and try to enjoy these last days of pregnancy.  Don’t be tempted to start eating dodgy foods or castor oil in a bid to get things moving - this will only serve to upset your system and make you feel rough!

Rest and Relaxation:

Amid the anticipation and excitement, don't forget to take care of yourself. As your body prepares for labour, getting enough rest is essential. Use this time to pamper yourself with relaxing baths, gentle walks, and moments of meditation or deep breathing.

Week 38 of pregnancy marks the final countdown to your baby's arrival. Your nesting instincts are in overdrive, your belly is a force to be reckoned with, and your emotions might be all over the place. Embrace the quirks of this stage, keep an eye out for signs of labour, and most importantly, practice patience. Before you know it, you'll be holding your precious baby in your arms, and all the waiting and discomfort will be a distant memory. Enjoy this unique phase of your journey, and get ready to welcome your little one into the world with open arms!
